Weekend details

We headed down to Emerald Isle, N.C., this weekend to catch a few rays and waves, and despite less-than-stellar weather forecasts and a tropical storm that popped up out of nowhere (um, last I checked hurricane season wasn’t due for at least another month), we had a near perfect weekend full of sun, sand and surf. Plus lots of eating and drinking. Hooray summer!

Clockwise, from upper left:

Marsh walks with Milo (Madewell sweater, Kenneth Jay Lane necklace, Gucci sunglasses)

Stand up paddleboarding
Beach bound (Urban Outfitters hat, Gypsy 05 coverup)

Anyone got any awesome summer plans? Fill me in and make me jealous.

Summer nights, summer whites

6 Shore Road Gin Beach mini dress, Joe’s Jeans boots, Cleobella Mexicana clutch, Chloe sunglasses

As I mentioned earlier this week, white ensembles are one of my favorite easy summer go-tos. I especially like white dresses, though honestly it’s best to gravitate toward casual ones since the vast majority of my more formal needs are weddings. I found this dress a few weeks ago (really loving the emergence of 6 Shore Road!) and decided I’d toughen it up a little bit with boots instead of sandals, which worked well with our pre-dinner lakeside stroll Saturday night.

Sidenote: I’m a firm believer that the no white before Memorial Day/after Labor Day rules are antiquated, but for those of you that subscribe to that sort of thing, Memorial Day is just around the corner – time to bust out the summer whites.

Casual whites

Maison Scotch tank, Bop Basics shorts, Minnetonka boots, Marc Jacobs sunnies

While I love getting dressed up for an occasion, things are pretty casual around here about 90 percent of the time (and 8 percent of the remainder, I’m hopelessly lazy). An all-white ensemble is definitely an easy summer go-to for me, but generally in a I-hope-this-is-instantly-chic-and-I-don’t-spill-my-coffee way. I recently got this tank (can’t resist a nautical theme) and decided to take white a different direction for a super casual look. Since my Sundays often involve trips to the grocery store and long dog walks (as this one did), a go-to casual take will likely come in pretty handy.

We headed up to my favorite local meadow (about which James Taylor once waxed poetic in his song “Copperline”) to take Milo for a little hike, and though it was misty and gray, it was actually pretty beautiful and nicely deserted. Not to say that I’m ok with all the rain we’ve been getting lately – enough already, nature.

Weekend details

Though I really like travel and weekends away, sometimes it’s nice to stick around home for a bit. This time of year tends to get a little crazy for me, with pretty much every weekend spent at some out-of-town location, so it was a bit of a surprise to have a nice relaxing weekend at home. Since I’m gonna be out of town the next four weekends in a row, I tried to soak up as much of what I dig about home as I could and it made for a pretty sweet couple of days. In light of that, boo Monday.
