Despite my growing love for San Francisco, one place will always be home – nice to have a little something to remind me of that, even while basking in the no-jacket-needed January afternoon sun. Plus, I’ve been really into shirts like this to mix things up lately – what are y’all’s thoughts on graphic tees? I’ve been digging them paired with pretty much any and everything.

Fall dahlias from the farmers’ market

Normally I don’t get too into Halloween until right before the 31st, but I do like to spend a solid couple of days getting into the Halloween spirit and making myself sick on candy pumpkins – after all, it’s not Halloween unless I’ve overloaded on candy pumpkin sugar. I’m heading out of town next weekend and I had to get my pre-Halloween fix in this weekend, so we did a little pumpkin carving and pumpkin-beer drinking. Hopefully our jack-o-lanterns will hold up through the end of the month, though I’m not optimistic since I saw one melting off my neighbor’s porch the other day. How’s your Halloween prep going?

I also recently created a Facebook page for Sea and Swank – there’s not much there yet, but I’ll be adding more shortly and I’d love if you checked it out!

Black and Blue

Blank Denim vegan leather pants, H&M tank, J.Crew jean jacket, Isabel Marant Jenny boots, Mulberry oversized Alexa bag, traditional tartan scarf

Following my recent perusal of all things leather and pleather, I picked up these vegan leather (ok – just a nicer way of saying pleather) leggings/pants/whatever, and I have to say – they are actually quite comfortable, despite pleather’s reputation for being anything but. Given how chilly it’s gotten lately – it feels like January, no joke – I’m not sure I’m the best judge of breathability at the moment, but for now anyway: pleather, I am impressed.

Side note: I have had this jean jacket since 2001, possibly 2000. Nice work, J.Crew.

Indian Summer Layers

Patterson J. Kincaid shirt (similar), Design History dress, Isabel Marant Jenny boots, Moon and Lola necklace

We’re having something of an Indian Summer here in North Carolina at the moment, with temperatures rising into the 80s the past few days. Accordingly, it’s been kinda tricky getting dressed in the mornings, which are still decidedly coolish, so light layers and closed-toed shoes are key (which is OK by me, since that means I have an excuse to wear my new boots despite the afternoon heat).

The Indian Summer is more proof that even in fall, cotton dresses are really a go-to for me about nine months out of the year – they’re easy, comfortable and perfectly amenable to layering.

Weekend Details

Though things have most certainly started transitioning to fall on the coast, the past couple of days at the beach were warm enough for all grades of outdoor activity, and accordingly my weekend was spent with bike rides around the island, runs on the beach and even a last-of-the-season swim. As nice as all that was, the weekend flew by in a flash and here we are at Monday again. Do you ever find that the more awesome the weekend, the worse it is to get back to the grind? Bleh.

Happy boating, indeed
