What to Pack: Weekend in Palm Springs

The dude and I have just a couple of days for a little celebratory getaway, so Palm Springs was an easy choice as our destination since it’s only a 90-minute flight away. We’ve never been, but I’m pretty excited about a little poolside lounging and good old-fashioned R&R. Also on the agenda are some traipsing around in the desert, a visit to the spa and Rat Pack-style cocktails. The forecast is calling for temperatures in the 80s and sunshine, so I’m packing accordingly, focusing on airy fabrics and pool wear. Can’t wait!

Mint Obsession

As evidenced by my previous posts, I’m having a bit of a minty moment (or two) and can’t seem to get enough of this oh-so-lovely color. But who’s to blame me? Clearly my favorite shops and designers agree, as the available tempting options out there are only increasing.

When the jumpsuit/onesie trend came back around a few years ago, it drew some serious skepticism, but not from this camp. Here’s why: I’m a big fan of anything that makes the day just a tad bit easier, and like dresses, jumpsuits mean at least one less decision while getting dressed in the morning (without the dress’s incompatibility with riding bikes/sitting cross-legged/doing cartwheels/the like). Plus, I dig pretty much anything reminiscent of the ’70s – wonder if our ’70s counterparts were trying to minimize their decision-making when they came up with the whole thing?

Cargo Stripes

Zara skinny cargo trousers, H&M striped top (similar), Loeffler Randall Dita heels, Kenneth Jay Lane elephant necklace

You know that item of clothing you’ve been hunting for for years? You’ve got the image in your mind, and you come across countless pieces that are almost it, but not quite? I’ve been looking for the perfect pair of skinny cargo pants since approximately 2007, and I’m proud to say that I’ve finally found them. I had some key requirements – they needed to be the perfect shade of olive green, have a skinny yet comfy fit, be made of a super-soft cotton and have details, but not too much superfluous BS (don’t you hate it when there’s some random rhinestones or a stupid emblem?). While I didn’t think that was too much to ask, apparently it was, at least for a while – so I’m happy to say that I’ve found my perfect pair, finally.

Sunset

Riller & Fount India gathered halter maxi dress, Loeffler Randall Dita heels, Clare Vivier flat neon stripe clutch

We snapped these the other evening just before a rehearsal dinner during a little lakeside sunset-gazing. Made for a pretty spectacular cocktail-hour setting – and now I’m noticing again my tendency to dress like the hour of the day with my oranges and yellows of the sunset.
