We headed out to Ocean Beach the other afternoon where things were seriously windy – like my sweater would’ve flown away if not belted windy. Perhaps the hundred or so kiteboarders out in the water should’ve clued me in before I got out of the car. Milo seemed to dig it anyway, and my go-to bright summer maxi skirt adapted to the winter winds nicely.

The weather here is super erratic – one minute it’s warm and sunny, the next it’s cloudy and cold – so I’ve been learning to dress in layers a little more regularly than I did back in the Southeast. It’s not a skill I’ve fully mastered yet (seeing as I’m used to either sweltering or freezing or rainy or warm or chilly – and not all in one day) but I’m getting there. Another thing I’ve learned: People here dress incredibly inappropriately for the temperature (chicks in shorts and flip flops in 50 degrees, dudes in ski hats and parkas in 60), so it seems we’re all a bit confused.
Dress+blazer+boots is such an easy go-to ensemble for fall, and ease has been pretty high on my list lately with the cross-country move and all. When everything you own is packed away in one suitcase or another, the fewer items you need, the better, so stumbling across your easiest wrap dress while digging through a mass of clothing is pretty exciting.

I spent of good bit of time over the Thanksgiving holiday frolicking in the East Coast sand, despite less-than-balmy temps. To maximize the hours outdoors, I lived in knits of all shapes and sizes pretty much all weekend (learning quickly that loose-knit types aren’t so great for ocean breezes). My sister knitted me this headband a while back and it’s pretty perfect for chilly-but-not-too-chilly days, though I’ve discovered that it’s one of those pieces that you’ve gotta commit a full day to, as it is not so kind to the hair, especially that of the banged variety.
There are few things that make me happier than a little (or more than a little) wine tasting on a fall Saturday afternoon. We snapped these pics at our final stop of the day during our Napa tour this weekend, hence all the smiles. I’ve been really gravitating toward all grades of flowy blouses lately, and this one seemed particularly suited to an afternoon of wine country indulgence.
