San Francisco was completely cloaked in fog when I got home from work yesterday, so our sunny weekend in Palm Springs seems particularly far away right about now. All the same, it’s nearly April so I can’t help but want to think only about sunshine and warm weather, and I know you East Coasters have got to be feeling the same since things should be getting warm there after all. Think those warm thoughts, lovelies; meanwhile, I’ll pretend that I never left the SoCal desert.

This year I actually made it out to the mall for the day-after-Christmas sales, and surprisingly it wasn’t nearly as painful as I anticipated it to be – the crowds weren’t so bad, I spent hardly any time in line and claustrophobia was kept to a minimum. Plus, I found a couple of pretty sick deals at J.Crew, including this tee, which I snagged for $35 (down from $128), and a pair of jeans for $22 (down from $125). While fighting through hoards of shoppers for sales still isn’t high on my list, the appeal is certainly growing.

Leather goods

One of the things I learned shortly after I got married is that anniversary presents are supposed to be themed – who made those rules I’m not sure, but since over the years my better half and I have bought each other a crap-ton of presents, it’s nice to have some direction for at least one annual gift-giving event.  Through the years the materials get a little pricier (here’s looking forward to diamonds on year 60!) with year one presents made of paper, year two, cotton and year three – which we’re coming up on – leather. I’m not one of those people who’s not into presents – I love opening up pretty much anything wrapped in pretty paper – so I’ve compiled a nice little collection of leather items that would be rad to receive on our upcoming anniversary. This will also serve as a nice test to determine if my husband actually reads this blog – he claims he does, but I am betting heavily that he does not. Are you there husband? It’s me, your wife.

Summer nights, summer whites

6 Shore Road Gin Beach mini dress, Joe’s Jeans boots, Cleobella Mexicana clutch, Chloe sunglasses

As I mentioned earlier this week, white ensembles are one of my favorite easy summer go-tos. I especially like white dresses, though honestly it’s best to gravitate toward casual ones since the vast majority of my more formal needs are weddings. I found this dress a few weeks ago (really loving the emergence of 6 Shore Road!) and decided I’d toughen it up a little bit with boots instead of sandals, which worked well with our pre-dinner lakeside stroll Saturday night.

Sidenote: I’m a firm believer that the no white before Memorial Day/after Labor Day rules are antiquated, but for those of you that subscribe to that sort of thing, Memorial Day is just around the corner – time to bust out the summer whites.
