Whenever possible, I prefer to walk to get where I’m going; I just generally find it to be the most pleasurable way to get from point A to point B (in most cases). So when I moved to San Francisco, I found that careful planning of all walks was imperative to avoid unexpectedly walking up hills that are basically vertical faces, in both directions. I’ve started figuring out where the real beasts are (and luckily my neighborhood is pretty flat, at least by SF standards), and I’m able to avoid them when I want – but I’ve also learned something else: bigger hills=awesome views. Tradeoffs.

Despite my growing love for San Francisco, one place will always be home – nice to have a little something to remind me of that, even while basking in the no-jacket-needed January afternoon sun. Plus, I’ve been really into shirts like this to mix things up lately – what are y’all’s thoughts on graphic tees? I’ve been digging them paired with pretty much any and everything.

Winter Sale Finds

Not trying to be a wet blanket, but January is pretty much the lamest of all months. The holidays are over, New Year’s resolutions have got us feeling guilty about any and all things fun and spring is nowhere in sight. There is one redeeming bright spot to this oh-so-cold month, however – all those things you’ve been eying all fall (but that Santa didn’t get the memo on) are now on serious sale, so it’s an excellent time for a little To: Me, Love: Me present action. And the best part? No thank you notes.

Warm December

The past few days have been unseasonably warm and beautiful – typical, given that I’m departing for the West Coast mere hours from now. Obviously North Carolina wanted to remind me of just how awesome it can be. Nothing like not needing a jacket – or sleeves, really – in December.

What to Pack: Weekend in New York

New York City is a place like no other – somewhere that everyone should visit at least once, and a place that always leaves me completely exhausted after a few days in its midst. I’m heading up there this weekend to celebrate the 30th birthday of one of my nearest and dearest (yes, scary that we are beginning to turn 30), and accordingly I’ve got a pile of things that would last me a week waiting to be stuffed into a suitcase. Time to narrow it down to the essentials for 48 hours in the city: a fun party dress and heels for a night out celebrating, comfy flats for walking around the city, layers for manic weather this time of year and a tote large enough to carry all the stuff I deem essential for a day out. There may be a few other things making their way into my luggage (including a swimsuit for a celebratory trip to the Russian bath house!) but hey, I’m working on it.
