I spent the past few days up in the Napa Valley at the inaugural Bottle Rock music festival and I feel a bit like I’ve just returned from some sort of awesome NorCal utopia. The festival was everything I wanted it to be and more, with sets by favorites Best Coast, the Alabama Shakes, the Black Keys, Jackson Browne, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros (and a zillion other badass groups), plus Napa wine and food, festival fashion, and a whole lotta sunshine. We posted up at the Silverado Resort, which has a serious Caddyshack vibe (in the loveliest of ways, I promise) and were able to spend some time exploring downtown Napa due to the excellent placement of the festival grounds.

All in all, a very successful first year for a festival that I hope becomes an annual tradition.

Let’s hope the fog monster keeps it in check for a bit.

I’ve been MIA lately, I know. And I have good reason, having started a new job, done a bit of traveling and hosted some visiting friends – but truth be told, I’ve really just been out soaking up the oh-so-awesome sunshine that’s come out in all its glory over the past couple of weeks. It’s amazing what happens when spring does its springing and anyone and everyone comes out of the woodwork with something of a smile on their faces. Highlights of my past few weeks include a seaside bachelorette weekend in Charleston, S.C., wine-tasting in the Russian River Valley, picknicking (and more picnicking) with everyone – yes, everyone – across San Francisco’s many parks, and some Sunday-afternoon Pacific beach lounging.

So, yeah, that’s what I’ve been doing: sun-chasing. Highly recommend it.

I haven’t been back to the East Coast since we moved west in December, so I’m happy to say that I’ll be heading to Charleston, S.C., this weekend to celebrate the impending wedding of one of my nearest and dearest. The wedding isn’t til May, but a pre-nuptial ladies’ weekend is in order and I’m pumped for some beach time, Chucktown bar-hopping and QT with the bride-to-be. There’s little I love more (or know better) than the Carolina shore in April, so packing for this trip will be a breeze. Going in my bag: several shades of blue, loose knits, summerweight scarves and crisp whites.

So cheerful, in fact, that I couldn’t be bothered to photograph any of it (seriously – my sides are still sore from all the laughter). I did manage to remember my camera when we brought Milo out to Ocean Beach, where he was very pleased to discover plenty of gulls to harass.

Visitors are always an excellent excuse to continue to explore the San Francisco restaurant scene, and we hit up Greens, a classic vegetarian spot in a gorgeous space along the marina, and Little Star Pizza, which more than satiated my deep-dish pizza craving. It’s kind of blowing my mind as I realize how I’ll never run out of awesome dining options (of all shapes and sizes) to explore.

Hope you all had a lovely weekend, filled with lots of gull-chasing and eating, obviously.
