Music Festing, Napa Style

Bottlerock1 – San Francisco Style Blogger

I spent the past few days up in the Napa Valley at the inaugural Bottle Rock music festival and I feel a bit like I’ve just returned from some sort of awesome NorCal utopia. The festival was everything I wanted it to be and more, with sets by favorites Best Coast, the Alabama Shakes, the Black Keys, Jackson Browne, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros (and a zillion other badass groups), plus  Napa wine and food, festival fashion, and a whole lotta sunshine. We posted up at the Silverado Resort, which has a serious Caddyshack vibe (in the loveliest of ways, I promise) and were able to spend some time exploring downtown Napa due to the excellent placement of the festival grounds.

All in all, a very successful first year for a festival that I hope becomes an annual tradition.

I’ve been MIA lately, I know. And I have good reason, having started a new job, done a bit of traveling and hosted some visiting friends – but truth be told, I’ve really just been out soaking up the oh-so-awesome sunshine that’s come out in all its glory over the past couple of weeks. It’s amazing what happens when spring does its springing and anyone and everyone comes out of the woodwork with something of a smile on their faces. Highlights of my past few weeks include a seaside bachelorette weekend in Charleston, S.C., wine-tasting in the Russian River Valley, picknicking (and more picnicking) with everyone – yes, everyone – across San Francisco’s many parks, and some Sunday-afternoon Pacific beach lounging.

So, yeah, that’s what I’ve been doing: sun-chasing. Highly recommend it.

What to Pack: Weekend in Charleston

I haven’t been back to the East Coast since we moved west in December, so I’m happy to say that I’ll be heading to Charleston, S.C., this weekend to celebrate the impending wedding of one of my nearest and dearest. The wedding isn’t til May, but a pre-nuptial ladies’ weekend is in order and I’m pumped for some beach time, Chucktown bar-hopping and QT with the bride-to-be. There’s little I love more (or know better) than the Carolina shore in April, so packing for this trip will be a breeze. Going in my bag: several shades of blue, loose knits, summerweight scarves and crisp whites.

Festival Dressing

Music festival season is nearly upon us my friends, and while I won’t be heading south to Indio this month, I’m already planning my festival attire anyway. The Bay Area is playing host to its own awesome music celebration this spring, with Bottlerock hitting the Napa Valley in May, and I certainly won’t be missing that. Music fest getups should be easy but fun, and comfortable footwear is of the utmost importance, since no one likes traipsing around festival fields/gravel/mud pits in heels. Other things to take into consideration are sun and heat, so easy fabrics and sun protection are key.

Happy music festing!

What to Pack: Weekend in Palm Springs

The dude and I have just a couple of days for a little celebratory getaway, so Palm Springs was an easy choice as our destination since it’s only a 90-minute flight away. We’ve never been, but I’m pretty excited about a little poolside lounging and good old-fashioned R&R. Also on the agenda are some traipsing around in the desert, a visit to the spa and Rat Pack-style cocktails. The forecast is calling for temperatures in the 80s and sunshine, so I’m packing accordingly, focusing on airy fabrics and pool wear. Can’t wait!
